UK Thalassamia Society fundraising campaign

UKTS (UK Thalassamia Society) is raising funds to purchase Airgloves for treatment centres around the UK .

People with thalassaemia have to have regular blood tests and blood transfusions every few weeks as part of managing their condition, which often makes repeated venesection very difficult and painful for patients, as their veins get badly damaged over time.

The Airgloves provide a way for this to be done much more easily and comfortably, reducing the number of times a patient has to have a needle inserted.

To date they have already provided 12 machines to various units but still have 60 more to provide for!  With this in mind they recently held a fun run on May 8th (World Thalassaemia Day) and are also running an ongoing art competition to raise awareness, which will close on May 22nd, so it’s still not too late to get involved!

We were pleased to hear that the boxer, Nabeel Javed, who himself has thalassaemia major, is also pledging funds from his next fight on May 21st to UKTS which will be put towards the purchase of an Airglove machine for patients in the Coventry area specifically.

As many people will be aware, the UK Thalassaemia community were also greatly impacted by receiving blood infected with hepatitis C before screening was introduced in September 1991, so if you would like to support them with a donation to their amazing work please click here: https://www.justgiving.com/ukts/donate
