Would you like to volunteer for The Hepatitis C Trust’s helpline?

Role Description

The helpline provides an information and support service for those affected by or interested in hepatitis C.  With this in mind we only take on volunteers who have lived experience of hepatitis C.

Volunteers will be expected to commit to at least one shift per week to ensure continuity (shifts are currently from 10.30 to 4.30pm Monday to Fridays.  All helpline work is based at our office at London Bridge.

Onsite training, supervision and support for volunteers is provided by the Helpline Information and Support Service Manager.

We value the work of volunteers and aim to provide a friendly working environment in a mutually supportive atmosphere.  It is hoped that volunteers will in turn benefit from extending their existing skills and also increase their own personal knowledge and awareness of issues around hepatitis C.  Helpline volunteers will be expected to provide information and support to those affected by hepatitis C.  A willingness to share your own experience, where appropriate, is also helpful to callers.

Essential Skills Required

Good interpersonal skills are required, i.e. - the ability to speak to people on the telephone in a friendly and efficient manner.

Must be able to use a computer (for our database) and the internet (primarily for our website) for information retrieval. 

Have the ability to work as a team and a willingness to assist the team in other general tasks as may be required - eg. Helping with mail-outs or looking up specific information.

General administrative skills are desirable

We will provide:

Training in helpline skills, office procedures and use of office equipment
Reimbursement of travel expenses
Reimbursement for lunch
Support and ongoing supervision
